Summary

The 2020 CEIS evaluated the economic impacts of on-airport businesses and activities and other spin-off or multiplier impacts (both indirect and induced) of airports throughout Colorado. Economic impacts were estimated for each individual airport included in the study as well as for the system as a whole, updating the prior impacts published in 2013. The CEIS helps communicate the benefits of airports, both quantitative and qualitative, and validates the continued public investment in Colorado’s airport system. This includes compilation of information on the real-life stories that illustrate how aviation impacts the state’s businesses and communities, beyond providing impact numbers.

Detailed analysis of the role of airports in supporting air cargo and economic development, the contribution of airports to Colorado’s agriculture industry, tax impacts from aviation activity, and the vast economic impact of the Denver International Airport are also included in the CEIS. A dynamic economic impact calculator was developed for CDOT Aeronautics to use in calculating changes in impacts resulting from significant events at individual airports.
